Weight We Carry/ Kristy Janvier

Contemplates healing and explores how we carry so much while gracefully dancing through the transition to motherhood- balancing it all in our day-to -day existence.

Kristy’s work reflects on healing and the transition into motherhood, using rocks as a metaphor for the weight we carry—literally and figuratively. Her pieces represent the balance mothers seek as they carry their children while navigating the burdens and beauty of everyday existence.

The exhibit includes a “healing dress” made from willow hoops and birch bark cones, a “weighted moss bag” symbolizing both fragility and strength, and the “flower rock” piece with intricate beadwork on photographs of rocks.

Kristy Janvier, originally from Flin Flon, Manitoba, is of Dene and mixed European descent. After a career as a professional dancer and actress abroad, she returned to Canada to focus on performance work inspired by personal stories. Her beadwork has been an integral part of her practice since 2018, and the sales from her efforts go toward supporting future generations through her family’s bush cabin.

We invite you to visit this impactful exhibit and experience Kristy’s exploration of motherhood and healing.
